Elusive Leopard Keeps South Delhi on Edge: Search Intensifies

December 04, 2023 – (New Delhi): The hunt for the leopard, first sighted on Friday night in Neb Sarai, south Delhi, continues, leaving residents on edge. Despite the deployment of at least 50 police officials and efforts by the forest department, the elusive big cat has yet to be located.

“It’s more than 48 hours, and there is no lead on the leopard. The two trap cages set up by the forest department are still in place,” revealed a police official on Monday.

The initial sighting occurred near a farmhouse in the Neb Sarai area, situated on the Delhi-Haryana border, triggering concerns among locals. However, the leopard has remained elusive since that first sighting.

To manage the situation, approximately 50 staffers from the Neb Sarai Police station are on continuous duty, closely monitoring the area. Under the supervision of Inspector Surender Rana, they are collaborating with forest department personnel to coordinate search efforts.

“We are making announcements, at least thrice a day, informing people about do’s and don’ts if they encounter the leopard again,” stated another police official.

Over the weekend, the forest department deployed two teams comprising 40 personnel each to comb the jungle area connected to the Aravali Hills range. Despite these efforts, the leopard’s whereabouts remain unknown, adding to the tension in the region.

As authorities intensify their search and awareness campaigns, residents in Neb Sarai anxiously await updates, hoping for a swift and safe resolution to the situation.
